Harvey wants Jersey's defence to get better

Jersey boss Ben Harvey says his side's defence must improve after their 41-33 loss at London Scottish.

The island team out-scored Scottish five tries to four but gave away a host of penalties at Richmond.

"You don't have to be a Championship side to score tries against us, that's the frightening thing," Harvey told BBC Radio Jersey.

"We're giving away soft tries. It's almost like schoolboy stuff, so if we can cut that out we can play."

Jersey's backs have seen a number of additions in the past few weeks, with Mark McCrea and Mark Foster making their debuts alongside the likes of Max Stelling and Barry Davies.

And Harvey says the strengthening of the backs will prove worthwhile as the weather starts to improve.

"We've been branded as a one-trick pony, that we can't play when it's dry, we can only play when it's wet," Harvey added.

"We put that right today - we can play when it's dry and we've got some very good players.

"We did some very good things, but it was crucial errors. But we'll learn and get better, and Plymouth next week will be on the end of another good performance.

"There's so much right and there's such a bright future for the club, both on and off the field, that we'll continue to keep working our little legs off and we'll get there."
