Leicester Tigers motivated by Premiership final failure

Leicester Tigers scrum-half Ben Youngs says the club has endured enough heartache in the Premiership final to know how to win on the big stage.

Leicester have won just three times in eight successive trips to Twickenham, losing on their last two visits.

Youngs said the pain of last year's defeat will be a powerful motivator against Northampton on Saturday.

"Twice we have come up short and not given a good account of ourselves," Youngs told BBC Radio Leicester.

"I remember coming off the field frustrated last year - we were all frustrated because we probably saved our worst game for the very end.

"We are not going to make the same mistake now.

"A few guys have been there in finals when we have lost, but guys have also been there when we have won and know what it takes.

"Sometimes you have to lose some to win some."

The England international said the Tigers players would need to call on all of their vast domestic and international experience to overcome Saints, who are making their first appearance in a Premiership final.

After beating defending champions Harlequins in the semi-final, Youngs said belief is at an all-time high.

"You only need to look at the squad, the experience we have got in players that have appeared in World Cups, lost finals and played in big quarter-finals in Europe, to see that we are in a good position," Youngs added.

"After the performance we put in against Quins we are going to come out firing.

"This group is definitely confident without being over-confident."
