Gloucester have named versatile forward Tom Savage as their captain for the 2013-14 Premiership season.

The 24-year-old replaces Jim Hamilton, who left Kingsholm at the end of last season to join French side Montpellier.

Savage signed from Hartpury in May 2011 and broke into the Cherry and Whites' first team the following campaign.

"I'm delighted. It's a massive opportunity for me and a huge honour to captain a side like Gloucester," Savage told BBC Gloucestershire.

Director of rugby Nigel Davies added: "Since my arrival at the club, I've been so impressed with the workrate he puts in on and off the field, and the respect his team-mates have for him. His work ethic and commitment are second to none.

Lions and England centre Billy Twelvetrees has been named as vice-captain under Savage.
