Plymouth Albion: Shanahan enjoys 'challenging' Championship

Plymouth Albion boss James Shanahan believes his side's bonus-point win against high-flyers London Welsh has helped define the Championship season.

Albion's first league victory at home this term, and first since November, knocked Welsh off the top of the table.

Shanahan cited Nottingham's win against London Scottish and Ealing's resurgence as further proof of the unpredictability of the Championship.

"It makes this an interesting league, challenging and enjoyable," he said.

"Nottingham beating Scottish was probably not seen by anyone, just like Ealing going to Nottingham [to win] and us beating Welsh," Shanahan told BBC Radio Devon.

Victory moved Plymouth to seventh in the table, two points ahead of Bedford in eighth, but 10 points below Cornish Pirates in sixth.

They will try to achieve successive league wins for the first time this season when they face London Scottish at the Athletic Ground on Saturday.

But Shanahan said Nottingham's win against Exiles, which saw them slip to two places down to fifth, has done Plymouth no favours.

"They come off the back of a defeat so they will obviously be tough. But then again, there are no easy games in this league," he added.

"We go there full of confidence and hope for back-to-back victories so we can get away from those teams chasing us from below."
