Six Nations 2014: O'Mahony jibe 'frustrates' Wales centre Roberts

Centre Jamie Roberts was "frustrated" by Peter O'Mahony's assertion that Ireland "wanted it more" in their 26-3 Six Nations win over Wales.

Man-of-the-match flanker O'Mahony's comments were reported on the Irish Rugby Football Union website.

"We wanted it more than they did. That was evident by the end of it," he said.

Racing Metro centre Roberts retorted: "To hear those comments is quite frustrating. Each one of us wanted it. We just weren't good enough."

Ireland's win keeps them on course to take the title off Wales whose captain, Sam Warburton, believes his side can still retain their title for a record third successive time.

Wales coach Warren Gatland judged his side's performance to be among the worst of his six-tournament reign.

And while Roberts says he and his team-mates will take collective responsibility for the defeat, some areas will need addressing.

"We have to have a look at ourselves, have a look at the way we played, have a look at our kicking game, definitely, and our territory game," he said.

"Ireland beat us there."

Roberts says the line-breaks Wales made were a positive aspect of their display but praised Ireland's defence, particularly around the time when replacement prop Rhodri Jones had a try ruled out for a double movement on the ground.

"We were hammering on their line… around 60 minutes and have to give Ireland credit, they defended very well," Roberts said.

"Fair play to them, it's moments like that which win Six Nations and we've been there as a team over the last few years and Ireland will be pleased with that.

"They kept us at bay defensively."

A crucial clash with France in Cardiff now awaits Wales on Friday, 21 February and Roberts said: "Sometimes you have to hold your hand up and say you were beaten by a better team and Ireland were that.

"We have to beat France - that's the next target and everything will go into that 80 minutes and there's no excuses from there on in."
