It was supposed to be a day of tense encounters governed by brutal weather, but in the end the conditions were not as dire as feared (OK, the Murrayfield pitch was, but at least it wasn't hammering down horizontally).

Ireland and England will both head into their fixture at Twickenham in a fortnight full of confidence, but for Wales and Scotland belief must be in short supply.

I'll be back in two weeks for another weekend of Six Nations action, see you then.

    Jeremy Guscott
Former England centre on France v Italy on Sunday

"This is a big test for France because they weren't very pro-active against England. What they did prove is that when they were forced to score a try to win, they do have that magical star dust."

    Sir Clive Woodward
Former England coach on Ireland's 26-3 win over Wales

"Ireland coach Joe Schmidt got it tactically right. The players want to play for him. It was a big, big win. No-one predicted that score. I was delighted Ireland won today purely because it makes the England fixture such a big match"

"It was a tough shift by all the guys in tough conditions. We weren't too happy with our attack - I felt we left some points out there - and these are things we need to keep learning. We got away with it today, we might not get away with it next time.

"It's been a tough start. We've had two weeks on the road and we're looking forward to getting back to Twickenham."

    Jeremy Guscott
Former England centre on reports Sam Burgess could make cross-code move

"He's a very exciting player. I would say he might have to lose some weight. But you look at his skill sets and he will be a very good union player."

"It was a tough day at the office made tougher by the fact there were 60,000 people in my office. England out-muscled us really, they got us down there and squashed us.

"I've got to be honest, the scoreboard flattered us. A significant part of this team are not completed articles. There is some talent but it was not on show today. We can swap and change and run down tunnels that are not there. But we are going to have to stick with the younger players.

"I thought we were in the game at 13-0. We got out-wrestled. We have got cutting edge, but you just have to be patient. You'll see it in the tournament."

Luke W:, external If Scotland play like that against Ireland, France and Italy it could get embarrassing for the Scots this year.

Concerned Citizen:, external Ireland to win the Championship but will lose to England. Points difference is the key.

The Gaz:, external Scotland players heads must roll after such an embarrassing display. Vern Cotter has a hard task this coming summer.

Duncan Aird:, external Congratulations, Scotland. You LITERALLY scored as many points as I could have scored. By myself. While blindfolded. In handcuffs.

Tom Edwards:, external That was as one-sided a game of rugby that I've seen in years. Scotland awful, but @EnglandRugby didn't let them settle.

Rachel Tight:, external Bloody amazing game! Rugby is definitely a man's game & this def made up for last week!

"I thought we were always reasonably comfortable. There's a bit of frustration that we didn't put more opportunities away. The start was important and we didn't concede in the first minute which was handy.

"We got stuck a bit in the second half but overall there's loads of positives. Huge credit to Ireland on a great win. They'll be coming to Twickenham full of confidence."

Joe Neale:, external "Well played England well deserved."

Tom Horton:, external "The Nematodes were Scotland's best player."

Average Joe:, external "No more EXCUSES, from the Scotland team. Looking like the wooden spoon, again. Not good enough! How much humiliation must we take?"

    Andy Nicol
Former Scotland scrum-half on BBC One

"So many things went wrong for Scotland. A couple of years ago their line-out was outstanding. Now it has fallen apart. They lost five line-outs, there were 27 missed tackles. You're never going to win a game of rugby with these statistics."

Josh Holland:, external Great result for England, but we could have had more points if we were more clinical.

Jonathan Dunn:, external England did a great job today, much more pace and endeavour, but needed to take more points when they could.

Tom Rowse:, external Fantastic to see England concede nothing. Solid win in tough wet and muddy conditions. Ireland game will be interesting!

    Sir Clive Woodward
Former England coach on BBC One

"This was a difficult, awkward game for England but they won it with ease. Yes, this was a poor Scotland team. But there's huge positives for England. A big response after Paris and they'll look forward to Ireland now."

  18. Postpublished at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2014

"Losing to France last week was massively frustrating and we wanted to show a reaction this week. We've definitely done that. I'm ecstatic to score a try. The pitch isn't in the best condition but I thought we played at a great tempo."

Ryan Kerr:, external Scotland clear favourites for wooden spoon. Can't see them beating the Italians. No creativity, poor kicking and full of ill discipline.

Lee Swann:, external England's forwards dominated the Scots. The 20-0 scoreline flatters the Scots and England should have scored more.

Martin Murrish:, external I would like to say England played well but they played the odds against a very poor Scotland.
