James Shanahan: Plymouth Albion 'developing a style' with signings

Plymouth Albion boss James Shanahan is "looking for a young, vibrant team" after signing four players for 2014-15.

Loughborough Students back-row Alistair Bone, 22, England Students centre Ben Axten-Burrett, 21, scrum-half Josh Davies, 21, and hooker Tom Cowan-Dickie, 23, all recently joined Albion.

Shanahan told BBC Sport: "We're looking for a young, vibrant team that we can develop over the next couple of years.

"I'm very happy with our acquisitions. They're all good, talented players."

Conscious that Albion are "probably in the bottom three in the Championship in terms of budget", Davies has looked to young prospects.

"Part of it comes down to budget and financial constraints," he added. "If you want to buy experience, you've got to pay a lot of money.

"I'm looking at players that I think have got the potential to really step up and be Championship players.

"I know I can help them, develop them and make them better players. At the moment it's developing a style of rugby and a side that the supporters can be proud of."

Josh Davies, arriving from Newport Gwent Dragons, played for Wales at last year's Junior World Cup.

"He's a good young prospect and I think he'll bring a lot of pace," Shanahan added.

"One thing we do pride ourselves in is trying to play a good, high-tempo game so I think he'll add to what we have with our current scrum-half."
