Edinburgh have signed lock Anton Bresler on a three-year deal from South African Super Rugby side the Sharks.

The Namibian-born 26-year-old made his Super Rugby debut in 2011 and has made 39 appearances in the tournament.

"He is a big, powerful and abrasive player," head coach Alan Solomons told the Edinburgh website., external

"He's a front of the line-out jumper and I would describe him as more of an enforcer lock. He will form a very good partnership with Grant Gilchrist."

Bresler and recent Scotland captain Gilchrist will compete for the second row spots with Fraser McKenzie, Ollie Atkins and twin brothers Alex and Ben Toolis next season.

"Anton is a player who, despite being just 26, has been a regular in the Sharks starting line-up for the past three to four years," added Solomons.

"The Sharks are probably South Africa's strongest franchise and are currently second in Super Rugby, which allows us to appreciate the quality of Anton as a player."
