Jersey fly-half Aaron Penberthy hopes his performance in the club's opening British and Irish Cup match will help him get a start in the Championship.

Penberthy kicked 15 points as Jersey beat Carmarthen Quins 37-17.

It was Penberthy's first appearance of the season, having lost his starting place to summer signing Jonny Bentley.

"I kicked a few goals which is good for my confidence and hopefully I put my hand up for a shirt," the 22-year-old told BBC Radio Jersey.

"It's great to be back after four or five weeks off," added the former Redruth youngster.

"I can tell I've not really played for a few weeks because I was really blowing in the first 20 minutes."

And Penberthy's form did not go unnoticed by head coach Harvey Biljon.

"His goalkicking was superb," he said.

"We've got to work on controlling the pitch and he definitely took some strides in that regard."
