England v Samoa: Strike threat not a concern - Stuart Lancaster

Stuart Lancaster's England team face South Africa on Saturday and Samoa the following week

England head coach Stuart Lancaster expects next weekend's Test against Samoa to go ahead, despite the tourists having threatened to boycott the match.

The players warned they would not play after accusing the Samoan Rugby Union of "incompetence" - a move described as "foolish" by their prime minister.

On Wednesday, the International Rugby Board said the players had agreed to call off the planned strike.

And Lancaster said: "My understanding is that it's been resolved."

His side are preparing to face the Samoans at Twickenham next Saturday in the third Test of their autumn internationals.

The match was put in doubt when the Samoan players contacted the IRB last month to voice their concerns about the administration of their national association.

The world governing body said it "had facilitated urgent and collaborative resolution" between the players and the Samoan Rugby Union, adding it "fully expects" the match to be played.

But Samoa prime minister Tuilaepa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, who is also the chairman of the Samoan Rugby Union, warned: "If they don't want to play then don't come. There are many players here who are looking for an opportunity.

"We're not forcing you. So submit your resignation and we'll select new players."

Samoa are currently in France preparing to play Canada on Friday. England face South Africa at Twickenham on Saturday, seven days after their 24-21 defeat by New Zealand.
