Cornish Pirates are second in their pool behind Doncaster

Cornish Pirates boss Ian Davies wants his side to continue their winning momentum after beating Cross Keys 30-14 in the British & Irish Cup.

Paul Andrew, Jack Andrew, Joel Conlon and Rob Elloway got the Pirates' tries.

The result keeps Davies's side in the hunt for a place in the knockout stage.

"We knew going into the three games that if we won all three it stood us in good stead, if not to win the pool then to go through as one of the best runners-up," Davies told BBC Cornwall.

"But more importantly for us we need that momentum going into Plymouth in the league," added Davies, whose side are 10 points off their cross-Tamar rivals, who are bottom of the Championship.

"They had a cracking result at the weekend winning away at Jersey. That's where our focus is now, to get that continuity."

Doncaster, who the Pirates face next week, top Pool Four of the British & Irish Cup with the Pirates second, despite being docked the points from their win over Bedford.

"Doncaster winning at Bedford shows how determined they are in this British & Irish Cup competition and the Mennaye will be a big match next weekend," said Davies.

"Doncaster have still got to come to us in the league as well, so psychologically it's a very big game for both sides."
