Glasgow have confirmed that their Fijian scrum-half Niko Matawalu will join Bath next season.

Matawalu, who signed his first professional contract when he joined the Warriors in 2012, will move when his deal expires in the summer.

The 25-year-old has played 60 times for the Warriors, scoring 110 points.

"The club and Scottish Rugby made me a good offer, which made it a difficult decision to leave, but I was ready for a new challenge," said Matawalu.

"I've really enjoyed my time in Glasgow and I'd like to thank the Warriors for this opportunity.

"My focus is on the Warriors and helping the club achieve success this season."

Matawalu came on as a replacement when Glasgow comprehensively beat Bath 37-10 in the European Champions Cup in October.

The sides meet again on 24 January at the Recreation Ground and Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend has no concerns over how Matawalu will perform as his time at the club comes to an end.

"When he moves on at the end of the season we'll wish him well in the next stage of his career, but there is still a lot of rugby to be played before then," said Townsend, whose side beat Munster 21-18 on Saturday at Scotstoun.

"He has always given 100% for the club and I know he will continue to do so until the end of the season.

"I'm sure he will be very popular with the Bath supporters, as he has been in Glasgow."
