Owen Williams: Leicester Tigers fly-half opts to sign new deal

Owen Williams has scored 135 points from 17 matches so far this season
Fly-half Owen Williams has signed a new Leicester Tigers contract despite being linked with a return to Wales.
The 22-year-old has scored 318 points in 40 appearances since arriving from Scarlets last season.
Williams was reportedly wanted by the Welsh region as he continues to push for his first senior cap for Wales.
"Owen has done an excellent job for us. I'm delighted that he wants to stay in the longer term," Tigers boss Richard Cockerill told the club website., external
Last season Williams was regularly selected ahead of England fly-half Toby Flood, who has since left for France, and finished the campaign as the club's top points scorer.

Williams was a member of Wales' Under-20 squad that finished third in the 2012 IRB Junior World Championships in South Africa. He had been tipped to win his first senior cap last June on the tour to South Africa, but a suspension prevented his inclusion in the squad. |
The Neath-born fly-half has maintained his position as first choice at Welford Road despite of the arrival of another England number 10, Freddie Burns, from Gloucester.
"Owen has shown a great attitude to his work, and he is learning and developing his game all the time in a very tough environment, which says a lot about him," said Cockerill.
"We have two very good, young and ambitious fly-halves in Owen and Freddie Burns, which can only be good for them as players and also for the team as a whole."
The length of Williams' new deal has not been disclosed by the club.
