Jersey captain Alex Rae signs new contract at Championship club

Alex Rae has scored four tries in 44 appearances for Jersey

Jersey captain Alex Rae has signed a new deal to stay at the Championship club until the summer of 2017.

The 28-year-old second-row and was made captain that August.

"It sends a great message out to the rest of our players that their captain is willing to commit and be part of something moving forward," said head coach Harvey Biljon.

"He's bought not only into the rugby club, but Jersey life."

Rae has also spent time at Northampton and Bedford, as well as playing one LV= Cup game for Saracens in February 2013.

"He sees the progression of the club, where we're going and how hard we're working both on and off the field," Biljon added to BBC Radio Jersey.

"He's developed both as a leader on the field and a leader off the field.

"Importantly, he agrees with what's going on and wants to contribute.

"As we develop he'll become part of the decision-making process, being that leader and that senior figure, and for Alex, he's a loyal guy, wants to be part of what we're doing and that's what comes through."

Rae follows Steve Boden in extending his stay at St Peter, after the forwards coach signed a new contract last week.
