France are the defending Women's Six Nations champions

Julie Billes scored a hat-trick of tries as France made a strong start to the defence of their Women's Six Nations title at home to Scotland.

Julie Duval and Jessy Tremouliere crossed for early scores at the Stade Henri Desgrange, in La Roche-sur-Yon.

Billes then ran in her three tries either side of half-time, before Celine Heguy and Elodie Poublan touched down.

Scotland, who last won a match in the tournament five years ago, were no match for the slick hosts.

Tremouliere added two conversions and a penalty to a one-sided victory, with the French pack utterly dominant.

Duval burrowed over from close range to score after four minutes, with Tremouliere winning a race into the corner soon after.

Billes finished off a flowing move while Scotland threatened briefly from a Jenny Maxwell break before they were caught out by another fine passing sequence from the home side - Billes again adding the final touch.

Billes found her way through for a third time 10 minutes into the second half, following a good French overlap.

Heguy was next to cross over for the home side and with seven minutes remaining her centre partner Poublan got the seventh try, breezing through the exhausted Scottish defence.
