Scottish Rugby officials plan to meet New Zealand rugby league player Kevin Locke to persuade him to switch codes and countries and play for Scotland.

Full-back Locke, 25, who plays for the Salford Red Devils, would qualify to play for Scotland through his father.

"We plan to have a chat with Kevin and are ready to make him an offer if he wants to move to rugby union," said Scottish Rugby's Mark Dodson.

"It is down to him to decide what he wants to do."

The chief executive added: "An opportunity to speak with Kevin to discuss a move to union has merely presented itself. We are now following up this opportunity."

Auckland-born Locke moved to England in 2014 after five years at New Zealand Warriors.

He played in New Zealand's 34-2 thumping by Australia in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup final at Old Trafford.
