Yorkshire Carnegie boss Bryan Redpath saw his side come out on top in his first home game in charge.

Jersey centre Drew Locke scored the opening try but winger Oli Goss went over for the hosts at the other end.

Nick Haining's score before half-time though meant the Islanders were narrowly ahead at the break.

Christian Georgiou's try with 11 minutes of normal time remaining was the only score of a low-key second-half and proved to be enough for Carnegie.

Jersey had gone into the match on the back of one of the greatest wins in their history, a 23-21 triumph over promotion-chasing Worcester Warriors.

They were behind briefly to Harry Leonard's penalty after an infringement at the scrum, but minutes later were in front when Locke crossed the line in the corner following good work at the maul.

In a topsy-turvy encounter which saw the lead change hands on four occasions, Goss put Carnegie back ahead when he capitalised on a cross-field kick to dive over for the try.

The visitors held the half-time advantage though when scrum-half Samisoni Fisilau fed back-row Haining to dot down out wide.

In the second period, man-of-the-match Georgiou raced down the wing for the only points of the half to clinch the 16-12 victory and extend the winning run to three matches.

Although the Channel Islanders' Championship safety has looked almost certain for a number of weeks, the losing bonus-point and results elsewhere over the weekend, mathematically confirms they cannot be relegated and they remain in eighth spot with three games to go.

Carnegie, meanwhile, still have hopes of grabbing a play-off place but are six points adrift of fourth-placed Nottingham.
