European Cup: Wales' Jonathan Davies eyes glory with Clermont

Jonathan Davies says winning the European Champions Cup with Clermont Auvergne would rank alongside his Grand Slam with Wales and victorious British and Irish Lions tour.

Clermont face Saracens in their semi-final in St Etienne on Saturday.

Davies, who left Scarlets last summer to join the French side, believes winning a European trophy would rival his international achievements.

"It will definitely be up there," said the 27-year-old centre.

Davies has made 48 appearances for Wales, winning the Grand Slam in 2012, and played all three Tests as the 2013 Lions beat Australia 2-1.

He says winning a major tournament alongside club colleagues can match the sense of achievement at international level.

"Where it's different is that these boys you're around all through the year. You start in July together and you go on a big journey in two competitions.

"It's your bread and butter, so for me to be a part of a European-winning squad would be massive."

Davies was a part of the Clermont side that demolished Northampton 37-5 in the quarter-finals.

The Top 14 team now face a rematch of last season's semi-final, which Saracens won convincingly before losing the final to Toulon.

Davies never played in a European knockout match for Scarlets and was attracted to Clermont by such a prospect.

"In the past I've been watching these games," added Davies.

"I want to be a part of big games. I've been fortunate in my international career to be involved in big games.

"Making the move to Clermont was to be playing in these big games at the end of the season."
