The win was Jersey's first victory against Moseley, at the sixth time of asking

Jersey ran in five first-half tries to set them on their way to their first-ever win over Moseley.

Ryan Hodson (2), Fautua Otto (2) and Sam Lockwood all touched down to give the islanders a 33-0 lead at the break.

Moseley showed great heart to respond, backs Will Owen, Josh Skelcey and Caolan Ryan scoring to narrow the gap.

But Joel Dudley's late try completed a win which sees Jersey finish seventh in the Championship, their highest-ever finish in the English rugby pyramid.

Hodson's first try, from a maul after 10 minutes, laid the foundations for a sparkling first-half performance, Samoan wing Otto scoring in the corner soon after to make it 12-0 to the hosts.

Prop Lockwood crashed over for Jersey's third after Otto's superb crossfield run before Hodson, on his final league appearance for the club before joining London Welsh, claimed his second from a maul.

Jersey's maul was a powerful weapon, particularly in the first half

By then, Moseley prop Tom Warren was in the sin bin and Jersey again made their man advantage count when Otto sprinted in for his second score.

The Birmingham-based outfit knew they would finish the campaign in 11th, no matter the result, after guaranteeing survival at Plymouth Albion's expense a week ago.

After such a disappointing first-half display they were facing a potentially embarrassing scoreline but, to their credit, the visitors showed real grit and were not far off giving Jersey a real scare.

Backs Owen, Skelcey and then Ryan all ran in for converted tries beneath the posts, the latter after an interception near the half-way line, and suddenly a much-improved Moseley side were back within touching distance at 33-21.

But Jersey were to have the final say, with their only points of the second period, as replacement scrum-half Dudley darted through to score in the right corner, full-back Aaron Penberthy superbly converting.
