Edinburgh Rugby aim to play "a couple of games" at Easter Road next season as they seek a move away from Murrayfield.

The Pro12 club last used Hibernian's stadium in 1998-99.

"You see some leaks in the press about us talking to Hibernian about Easter Road," Scottish Rugby chief executive Mark Dodson told BBC Scotland.

"We're closer to that than we have been for a while. Our hope would be that we can have a couple of games as a test with a view to moving there."

Discussions will continue between Scottish Rugby and the Scottish Championship club, while there are sure to be concerns on whether the playing surface can cope with the extra burden and fixture scheduling.

"We hope we can come to some sort of arrangement for the coming season," added Dodson.

"We can't stay at Murrayfield for the longer term."

Scotland's national rugby stadium Murrayfield holds close to 68,000 spectators and Edinburgh rarely attract more than 4,000 fans to their league fixtures.

Easter Road, which hosted Scotland's 1-0 friendly win over Qatar on Friday, has a capacity of 20,241.
