Wales U20 scrum-half Tom Williams feels the force of the England defence

Wales Under-20 scrum-half Tom Williams says poor starts have contributed to their opening two losses at the World Rugby U20 Championship in Italy.

A 30-16 defeat to double champions England on Saturday, following an opening 19-10 loss to France dashed Welsh hopes at the tournament.

Wales complete their Pool A fixtures against Japan on Wednesday in Viadana.

"It was disappointing, especially as it was the same scenario as against France last week," Williams said.

"We didn't get a good start, we let them score 15 points in the first 20 minutes and we lost by 14."

Tries from Max Clark, Howard Packman and Stuart Townsend gave England a healthy lead.

An Owen Watkin try and 11 points from the boot of fly-half Jarrod Evans helped Wales recover, but Sam Skinner's late try sealed it for England.

"We had a disappointing start to both games and we've got to sort that out, we have to focus on that" Williams said.

"We were also on the wrong side of a few crucial penalties but it's not good enough."

"We know what we are capable of, we broke the English defence and played some good rugby at times, we had a good few chances to score but... we didn't finish them off.

"We just have to keep working hard, keep playing our game and hopefully we will finish off our chances next time if we can."

Wales face Japan at the Stadio Luigi Zaffanella on Wednesday bidding for a spot in the fifth to eighth place play-offs.
