New Zealand's Dan Carter has praised Wales' performance in their 28-25 World Cup win over England.

The All Blacks play Georgia in Cardiff on Friday, and arrived in the Welsh capital on Saturday as the celebrations were in full swing.

"We arrived in Cardiff that day and it's fair to say the city was going pretty mad that night," he said.

"I thought the second half by the Welsh was excellent, especially with the numbers of injuries they have had."

New Zealand face Georgia the at Millennium Stadium the day after Wales play Fiji in a crucial Pool A match.

They are top of Group C after wins over Argentina and Namibia, with one more game to come against Tonga on 9 October after they have played Georgia.

Carter, the leading scorer in international rugby with 1,532 points, thought the match between England and Wales was one of the best of the tournament so far.

"I thought it was a great game. It could have gone either way, the momentum shifted throughout the game," he added.

"[For Wales] to hold on in there until the end I thought was great."

No bad memories

Carter was part of the New Zealand team who lost 20-18 to France in Cardiff in the quarter final of the 2007 World Cup.

He was injured and did not finish the game, but insists he has no lasting worries about the Millennium Stadium.

"I've had a lot of great memories here and to be honest and achieved a lot it's probably my favourite stadium in the world," added Carter.

"It's just an amazing place to play, awesome atmosphere and I'm sure this Friday night is going to be exactly the same.

"People here in Wales and Cardiff are rugby made similar to Kiwis back home.

"They're so passionate about their rugby and it's just an awesome stadium and as a kicker it's quite handy having a roof on to take away wind or rain which you can have a bit of here in Cardiff.

"The atmosphere is always electric - obviously we're not playing Wales so it may not be the same, but it will still be a capacity crowd and I'm sure it will be amazing."
