Cambridge University scored eight tries in a dominant display against Oxford in the first ever Women's Varsity match to be played at Twickenham.

Alice Middleton and Anna Wilson scored hat-tricks as the Light Blues became the first side to score more than 50 points in the fixture.

Full-back Middleton, 26, also kicked a further 12 points from conversions.

Winger Lara Gibson and flanker Chloe Withers added the other tries as Cambridge denied Oxford any score.

Cambridge picked up their 11th win in the 29th edition of the fixture against a side led by former England women coach Gary Street.

Woman-of-the-match Middleton, a post-graduate doctor at Lucy Cavendish College, opened the scoring on 16 minutes, before adding her second and third tries in the second half.

Wilson, 23, moved from fly-half to centre for the game - and it paid off for the Jesus College veterinary medicine student as she completed her hat-trick within nine second-half minutes.
