Scott Baldwin: Ospreys out to 'smash' Cardiff Blues at Judgement Day

Wales hooker Scott Baldwin says Ospreys will be aiming to "smash" Cardiff Blues when they collide at Judgement Day.

Both sides need a top-six Pro12 finish to qualify for next season's European Champions Cup. Edinburgh are sixth, but Blues are a point behind in eighth with Ospreys in ninth three points further back.

Baldwin believes the local rivalry will give Saturday's match an added edge.

"You want to smash your opposite number," he told BBC Scrum V.

"One thing Biggs [Ospreys fly-half Dan Biggar] made a point of, if there's someone on the floor from their team and there's a break in play, don't help him up off the floor.

"Stay on top of him, push him into the ground, those kind of things, niggles.

"There's a lot of rivalry going into this weekend, especially for someone from Bridgend [Baldwin], for who Cardiff is probably more of a rivalry than the Scarlets."

Blues will be hoping for their first win over Ospreys since December 2010, while bidding for a fifth successive victory for the first time since 2010 as well.

There will be several head-to-head encounters involving Wales team-mates at the Principality Stadium.

One of those will see Baldwin front up against the Blues' two Welsh international hookers, Kristian Dacey and Matthew Rees.

Asked if his tackles against his opposite numbers will be full-blooded, 20-cap Baldwin has no doubts in his mind.

"Definitely. I'm sure he [Dacey] would do the same to me if he has the chance," the Ospreys hooker added.

"I've played against them both a couple of times and they've been quite heated encounters.

"Off the field, me, Dacey and Smiler [Rees] are quite friendly but, when you get on the pitch for that 80 minutes, anyone wearing a blue jersey is not going to be a friend."
