Geoff Cross: Scotland & London Irish prop retires to take up medical career

Cross scored two tries in 40 Scotland appearances and featured at the 2011 World Cup

Scotland international prop Geoff Cross is retiring from rugby in order to pursue a career in medicine.

A qualified doctor, the 33-year-old tight-head won the last of his 40 caps during the 2015 Six Nations.

He leaves London Irish after two seasons during which he made 15 appearances, scoring four tries.

"Representing my country was the pinnacle of my career and to have played 40 times for Scotland fills me with immense pride," said Cross.

"I feel very privileged to have fulfilled a lifetime ambition and to have made memories, which will last a lifetime.

"I feel the time is now right to move my attention towards returning to medicine, which I intend to achieve by next summer."

Cross began his professional career with the Border Reivers and spent eight years with Edinburgh, ending with a brief loan spell at Glasgow Warriors, before his switch to London Irish.
