Wales back Hallam Amos insists becoming captain at Newport Gwent Dragons will not change his game.

The 21-year-old Wales international will wear the armband for the first time in the Pro 12 match at Treviso on Friday, 23 September.

Amos is already the youngest regional starter and try-scorer for the Dragons - feats he completed when he was 17.

And of his new role, he joked: "I've captained Gwent under-14, so I've got a lot of experience!"

Amos believes he is ready for the responsibility of captaincy despite his relatively young age.

"It's not often you get a captain at 21," said Amos, who juggles rugby with his medical studies.

"But I've been under a lot of captains so hopefully I can bring some of that to the table.

"We've got leaders across the park here, there are people who will put their hand up and speak, but it's a nice title to have, but it won't be too different."

And Amos, who has made 10 appearances for Wales, dismissed talk of him leaving the Dragons, adding: "I'm happy here...the captain doesn't run off."

After scoring the Dragons' only try in last Saturday's home defeat by Munster, in Italy Amos will be looking to lead the his side to only their second Pro 12 win of the season.

Dragons head coach, Kingsley Jones, insisted Amos was more than ready to don the armband.

"He's stepped into the role with ease and he's respected by everyone," said Jones.

Treviso are currently bottom of the Pro 12 table and without a win in their first three games of the season.

But having seen his side toil in their 11-6 win over fellow Italian strugglers Zebre, Jones is guarding against complacency.

"The challenge is a mental one," he said.

"When you're playing in Italy at seven o'clock on a Friday night and there's not many people from home, that's when you need to deliver.

"The mentally tough players can go to environments like that and deliver the same performance."
