Munster's James Cronin handed four-week ban for stamping

Munster prop James Cronin is set to miss crucial European Champions Cup and Pro12 games after picking up a four-week ban for a stamping incident.

Cronin was cited for stamping on Leinster's Jamison Gibson-Park during his side's Pro12 defeat last weekend.

The 25-year-old is set to miss European fixtures against Racing and Glasgow and Pro12 games against Ulster and Ospreys.

He is also ruled out of Ireland's test against New Zealand at Soldier Field in Chicago on 5 November.

A five-week suspension was reduced to four after the disciplinary committee took "mitigating factors" into account. He will be free to play from 7 November.

Cronin, who has made 70 appearances for Munster since making his debut in April 2013, has the right of appeal.

He is due to miss Munster's Pool 1 opener against French side Racing 92 on Sunday, leaving the province with a selection headache at loosehead with Dave Kilcoyne doubtful because of a concussion injury sustained in last week's 25-14 defeat by Leinster at the Aviva Stadium.
