Wales: Liam Williams and Jake Ball not ruled out of Australia Test match

Liam Williams and Jake Ball have not been ruled out of the international against Australia in Cardiff on 5 November.

The Scarlets pair were injured in the 44-26 defeat by Saracens.

"He hasn't been ruled out yet and we're seeing how he reacts to treatment," said Wales pack coach Robin McBryde.

Scott Williams is back in training, and George North could be fit for Northampton this weekend, but captain Sam Warburton has a sore shoulder.

Centre Williams missed the Scarlets' defeat at Saracens while wing North hurt a hand in the Saints' loss against Castres.

Lock Jake Ball - who suffered a chest injury against Saracens - is also being assessed.

"Jake with regard to his ribs is pretty sore, it's quite hard to determine how long they're going to take, and it's the same with Liam really," said McBryde.

"The players are in the worst position, they're in between club and country, and they've been at the coal-face really," he added.

Meanwhile it has been revealed that captain Sam Warburton, who missed his comeback target in Cardiff Blues' fixture against Pau, was suffering from a minor "stinger" injury after it was originally described as neck stiffness.

George North was injured playing for Northampton against Castres

Cardiff Blues coach Danny Wilson is waiting to find out whether he will be released to play against the Scarlets on Friday, 28 October.

"That will be their [Wales'] judgement call on his fitness. If he is fit enough to play, I am sure they will want him to get some game time," Wilson told BBC Wales Sport.

"He had a bit of a stinger in training, it was picked up through protocol of proving his fitness coming back from the facial injury. It was sensible not to play him and risk something minor becoming something major."

Faletau boost

Wales face Australia on 5 November, and then play Argentina, Japan and South Africa.

Bath number eight Taulupe Faletau has a "good chance" of playing later in the series, added McBryde.

Faletau, 25, has been included in Wales' squad despite suffering a knee injury on his Premiership debut for Bath on 3 September.

Australia have named a 32-man squad for the match, including rugby league convert Marika Koroibete who is yet to play a senior rugby union match.
