Sean Maitland says Scotland's "X-factor" backs give the team belief they can always find a way to win matches.

Maitland scored Scotland's only try against Argentina following a superb assist from Huw Jones before Greig Laidlaw kicked the match-winning penalty to seal a 19-16 win.

"Our back-line cohesion and synergy is getting top-class," Maitland said.

"The competition in our midfield and our back three is only going to be healthy for Scottish rugby."

The Pumas appeared to be squeezing the life out of Scotland at Murrayfield and looked in charge when Matias Orlando's try put them 13-6 in front in the second half.

Perhaps the key to the Scots ultimately coming out on top was the rapid response to that score.

Maitland dived over in the corner after centre Jones - a peripheral figure up until that point - produced a moment of magic to break through the midfield and off-load for the Saracens wing to score.

"Our outside backs didn't really see too much ball," Maitland explained. "Probably a bit more counter-attack.

"It was just one of those games where you only get a few chances and Huw made something out of nothing.

"He had the vision to see me on the outside and get me in for a little lollipop try, so it's always good to get over the line."

Next up for Scotland is a meeting with Georgia, a side who have lost only one match since last year's World Cup and beat Samoa on Saturday, at Kilmarnock's Rugby Park in their final autumn test.

With just six matches left of Vern Cotter's reign as Scotland head coach, Maitland says the squad are keen to cement the Kiwi's legacy by finishing on a high.

"Everyone is a bit gutted that Vern's leaving, but that's footy," he said. "It's a business at the end of the day and we want to leave him on a high.

"We've developed our own brand under Vern of how we want to play the game and we're improving game by game.

"It will be good playing on the 4G surface. We like playing that fast game, so hopefully the weather is good. It's going to be another physical game.

"They're big boys. They'll definitely have a massive forward pack coming over to play us.

"They beat Samoa in Georgia, so we'll definitely not be complacent or think it's going to be an easy game."
