Scrum-half Rhys Webb says Wales have been judged "very harshly" after their performance in the 33-30 win against Japan.

Rob Howley's side struggled against Japan and needed a last-minute drop goal to seal victory in Cardiff.

Out of form South Africa are Wales' final opponents of the autumn series.

"I can tell you for sure that when they put on that jersey they go out to win," Webb told BBC Radio Wales' Scrum V Radio/

"I think they've been judged very harshly. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but if Wales win this weekend they've won three out of four games.

"Hopefully we will see a much better performance against South Africa with a massive win."

Webb, 27, believes Wales can push on from the Japan game when they face the Springboks as they look to conclude their autumn campaign with a third win out of four.

"The performances haven't been up to scratch and I think the boys will put their hands up to that. They know they can be a lot better," Webb continued.

"Going into the campaign we wanted to win all four games but I think we'll take three out of four."

Ospreys' Webb had surgery after turning his right ankle in Wales' 32-8 defeat by Australia and hopes to feature in the Six Nations.

"I'm very unlucky. I had the operation and that went well. I'm back on my feet and back in the gym training now," he said.

"It would be nice to get back on my feet before the Six Nations starts and get a good run of games for the Ospreys and we'll see how it goes from there.

"It's pretty tough to watch when you're not playing and to see someone else in your jersey."
