James Short scored two of his three tries in Exeter's second-half rally at Worcester

A James Short hat-trick saw Exeter move level on points with Saracens in second as they overturned a half-time deficit to beat Worcester with seven tries.

Warriors took a narrow 18-17 lead into the break but a yellow card for Alafoti Faosiliva allowed Exeter to capitalise.

Three quick tries put the Chiefs out of sight at Sixways, including two in the second half for winger Short.

But Worcester grabbed a try bonus point late on as Jackson Willison crossed for their fourth score of an eventful game.

Exeter have now won all 10 of their Premiership matches against Worcester and got back to winning ways after draws against Saracens and Wasps in the previous two rounds.

Worcester's try bonus point moves them six points clear of bottom club Bristol, who were heavily beaten at Leicester.

A strong start from the hosts, with early tries from Josh Adams and Perry Humphreys was cancelled out by scores from Gareth Steenson and Short.

Chiefs capitalised on the extra man early in the second half when Worcester number eight Faosiliva was sent to the sin bin for a flailing arm.

Three tries in 10 minutes from Olly Woodburn, Short and Sam Simmonds proved too much for Worcester to claw back.

Worcester interim director of rugby Gary Gold:

"I'm disappointed with the result but I'm proud at the way the boys continued to fight and it's a big positive to score four tries.

"We know how good Exeter are and if you make mistakes they will punish you. The yellow cards and a few missed touches resulted in a domino effect with the game being swiftly taken away from us.

"I didn't see the yellow card but our coaching staff did and they accept (referee) JP Doyle's decision was correct.

"We need to fix a few things but they are fixable."

"Both wings were outstanding today and have been an important part of our game all season.

"James Short has electric pace, especially on a fast service and he and Olly Woodburn became more and more lively as the game went on.

"I'm disappointed to have conceded so many points for the second week running but Worcester were hot and played with a lot of energy in that opening quarter.

"But we did maintain our intensity throughout and there was a momentum change even before the yellow card."
