Tommy Bowe's try put Ulster 8-0 up against Glasgow

Ulster gave one of the best displays of their largely disappointing season to secure a bonus-point win over Glasgow.

Tries by winger Tommy Bowe and flanker Sean Reidy helped Ulster forge a 15-0 lead before Brandon Thomson touched down for Glasgow just before half-time.

Ulster went 30-5 up with fine tries by Ruan Pienaar and Jacob Stockdale.

Warriors threatened a comeback when Scott Cummings scored two tries, but replacement Stockdale broke through for his second try to make sure of the win.

The result takes Ulster above Cardiff and into fifth place in the Pro12 table.

It means back-to-back wins for the Belfast-based team, following a 24-18 home win over Edinburgh the previous weekend.

Marcell Coetzee made his first appearance in that Edinburgh game and he has clearly made a positive impact on an Ulster campaign which had been in danger of petering out.

Now, though, they have revived their hopes of challenging for a place in the end-of-season Pro12 play-offs.

Ulster's Jacob Stockdale scored two brilliant tries after coming on as a replacement

Pienaar, playing his first game of 2017 after injury, opened Ulster's account with a 10th-minute penalty then got the opening try after 21 minutes when replacement Stockdale put Bowe over in the right corner.

Pienaar created Ulster's second for Reidy with a pass inside to the charging flanker who just made the line.

The half ended, though, with the Warriors getting on the scoreboard as full-back Thomson crossed out on the left.

Thomson, on a short-term deal from the Stormers, missed the conversion but the score gave the Scots some hope.

Ulster added a penalty through Pienaar and got their third try after 48 minutes when Stockdale - now in the centre in place of Cave - ran a brilliant line to burst through from a Luke Marshall pass to score under the posts.

The bonus point duly came four minutes later as Ulster swept downfield from deep in their own 22 with Pienaar starting the move and finishing it after Peter Nelson, Bowe and Paul Marshall had all handled.

Glasgow flanker Rob Harley was yellow-carded in the 67th minute for upending Rob Herring but the Warriors hit back immediately when lock Cummings charged Paul Marshall's clearance down and got on the end of his own hack ahead.

Fortunately for the Scottish side, referee Dan Evans opted not to look at the big screen, which showed Cummings had knocked on in the act of scoring.

Five minutes later Cummings scored again and the momentum seemed to be with Glasgow.

But Ulster hit back and Stockdale registered his second try with three minutes left as he brilliantly collected his own kick-through to dot down under the posts.
