Jersey Reds assistant coach and former skipper Alex Rae will leave the club at the end of the Championship campaign.

The ex-Northampton lock, 31, asked to be released from his contract and will return to England, with his wife expecting their second child.

Rae joined Jersey in 2013, captaining the side for three seasons before ending his playing career in April.

"It's been a great journey from battling relegation to now fighting for a place in the play-offs," Rae said.

Reds chairman Mark Morgan added: "We're disappointed to be losing Alex, who has played an important role for us in his first year as a coach.

"We're already considering options for Alex's successor, however our immediate focus is on a big finish to the current season."
