Pro14: Cardiff Blues 19-20 Glasgow Warriors

Glasgow Warriors came from behind to claim their third straight Pro14 win of the season as Cardiff Blues slumped to their third defeat.

Blues fly-half Steve Shingler had a late penalty in front of the posts to snatch a win, but having made all his kicks up to then sent the last wide.

Tom James' early try and Shingler's boot had given Blues a good platform.

But Glasgow hit back with tries from Henry Pyrgos and Lee Jones, while Finn Russell missed none of his kicks.

Blues had taken the game by the scruff of the neck when wing James handed off Alex Dunbar to scoot through for the opening try.

Shingler converted that score and the fly-half added two more penalties before the break.

Glasgow had only Russell's solitary penalty to show until the Scottish side broke swiftly down the blindside, sending the ball wide and then back inside for Pyrgos to cross.

Russell's conversion trimmed the home side's lead to 13-10 and a game that the Blues had seemed in control of now hung in the balance at half-time.

Shingler gave Blues some breathing space with his third penalty, but Glasgow struck back when Alex Cuthbert allowed Russell to out-jump him for a high ball before releasing Jones to the line.

The Scotland fly-half completed his good work with the conversion that put Glasgow into the lead for the first time.

Blues responded with a series of line breaks - full-back Rhun Williams particularly impressive as he jinked out of his 22 - but each petered out for lack of support or poor handling.

The home side's efforts were at least rewarded by another Shingler penalty that edged Blues back in front.

With less than 15 minutes to go Blues were penalised for collapsing a scrum and Russell swung the pendulum back Glasgow's way with the resulting kick at goal.

Cuthbert and centre Rey Lee-Lo made some bruising runs upfield to give Blues field position as the clock ticked down.

With a minute remaining Glasgow were penalised for wheeling a scrum, giving Shingler the chance to claim victory.

Having produced a faultless place-kicking display up to that point, the kick in front of the posts about 30 yards out seemed a formality but the fly-half sliced the ball wide.

The losing bonus point - Blues' first point of the season - will seem scant consolation to Danny Wilson's side.

Cardiff Blues coach Danny Wilson told BBC Sport Wales:

"It's one of those things. I'm not going to be critical of Shings (Shingler), I think he kicked extremely well all night and unfortunately he's missed that last one.

"All I can look back on is the performance and the application from our players, and I'm please with execution of game plan, I'm pleased with our effort.

"It's a good Glasgow side full of quality internationals, especially in their backline, and we're that close to nicking the win."
