Wasps returned to form in fine style to beat Northampton at Franklin's Gardens and claim just their third win in the Premiership this season.

Christian Wade's first-half try helped edge Wasps into the lead before Ashley Johnson and Josh Bassett extended the visitors' lead after the break.

Juan de Jongh went over for the bonus point score five minutes from time.

Ahsee Tuala and Harry Mallinder replied for Northampton but Saints slipped to their first home defeat of the season.

It was also a fourth-straight defeat for Jim Mallinder's side after losing both of their opening ties in the European Champions Cup.

Wasps ended their own five-game losing run with victory over Harlequins last week and backed it up with an even better performance.

But there was concern for England head coach Eddie Jones. Elliot Daly did not emerge for the second half having picked up a knee injury, prop Matt Mullan departed with a sore arm after 50 minutes and Piers Francis was also helped from the field shortly before the end.

Before his departure, Daly was part of a Wasps back-line that looked close to the form that dazzled last season with full-back Willie Le Roux putting in his best display of the season.

The pick of the scores saw the industrious Bassett cut in off the left-wing to beat Tuala for Wasps' third try

Northampton were largely outplayed but did have the final say with Mallinder's splendid individual try up the left wing.

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young:

"Elliot [Daly] went off with a knee injury. Hopefully it's just a collision injury, as in it's a bump that will settle down,

"Obviously it's a concern when anyone goes off with a knee injury, but it doesn't look too bad. It may be a ligament strain or it could be a contact injury.

"We're not going to know for the next 48 hours really. He's walking around on it fine so our medics will speak to the England guys and decide what to do.

"Matt Mullan initially looked like a shoulder but I think it's more his elbow/biceps. It looks quite painful and I'm not quite sure on the turnaround on that.

"It would be a real shame if either of them miss the autumn internationals because they have worked really hard - Matt to get back into the squad and Elliot to establish himself as a regular."

Northampton director of rugby Jim Mallinder:

"Piers [Francis] has done something to his ankle. We're not exactly sure what it is. He did it early in the game and then got another knock. Hopefully it's not too bad.
