Bath have offered Matt Banahan a new deal and want to keep Kahn Fotuali'i, says director of rugby Todd Blackadder.

Both experienced backs are out of contract at the end of the 2017-18 season, but Blackadder hopes they will agree to stay with the club.

"Market forces are really interesting these days - you'd like to keep a lot of people and Banahan is in that category," he said.

"[But] there are a lot of clubs with a lot more money than we can offer.

He continued: "We've put a contract offer out there and it'll be his decision on whether he stays or not."

Banahan, 30, has spent his entire career with Bath and is the club's longest-serving player.

Scrum-half Fotuali'i, 35, has been a key player for Bath since joining from Northampton in June 2016, with Blackadder describing him as "world-class".

Clark & Homer injured

Blackadder also confirmed that Bath will be without Max Clark and Tom Homer for two to three months, after both suffered injuries.

Centre Clark has bruised a bone on the inside of his knee cap, while full-back Homer will require surgery on a torn pectoral muscle having been forced off in his first game back following a persistent back injury and concussion.

Bath will also be without Semesa Rokoduguni and Charlie Ewels for Saturday's Premiership game against Harlequins, but Jonathan Joseph, Tom Dunn, Anthony Watson and Zach Mercer are available after being released from England's squad to face Samoa.
