Edinburgh back-row Jamie Ritchie has secured a contract extension until summer 2021.

The 21-year-old, whose current deal was due to expire at the end of next season, has already made 39 appearances for the Pro14 club.

And he received his first call-up to the Scotland squad ahead of last month's autumn Tests.

Ritchie said: "We're starting to build something incredibly strong here and I want to be a part of that process."

The former Howe of Fife player, who scored in Friday's 78-0 European Challenge Cup win over Krasny Yar, began his professional career with Edinburgh aged 17 and has captained Scotland at under-20 level.

"I'm delighted to be staying here in Edinburgh - a city which my family and I call home," he told Edinburgh's website.

"I've really enjoyed the changes made under Richard Cockerill and I'm excited to see where the club can go."

Ritchie has played 10 times for Edinburgh this season.

Head coach Cockerill added: "Jamie has been in great form this season and we're thrilled that he sees his future with Edinburgh.

"We're developing a strong culture within the club and Jamie's contribution is central to those plans."
