Henry Trinder scored two first-half tries for Gloucester

Two tries from Henry Trinder helped Gloucester beat Leicester at Kingsholm to maintain the Cherry and Whites' unbeaten home record.

Trinder crossed twice in the first half, replying to Joe Ford's first try for Leicester and Nick Malouf's score in an even opening half.

But, after Logovi'i Mulipola was yellow-carded for not retreating at a penalty, Gloucester took control.

Matt Scott went over for the decisive try after persistent pressure.

Gloucester's ninth win of the season moves them back into the top four while Leicester slipped to a seventh defeat this season but remain in the chasing pack for the play-offs.

The visitors twice took the lead in the first half as Malouf picked off Trinder's pass to sprint away to score before Brendon O'Connor made a break, exchanged passes with Graham Kitchener and sent Ford under the posts.

But twice Gloucester found quick responses - Jake Polledri and Lewis Ludlow combined to put Trinder into the left corner before Tom Marshall showed great strength to find space and free Trinder for his second try.

After Mulipola's sin-binning, Billy Twelvetrees kicked a penalty to put the home side ahead and Scott's try just before the hour mark proved enough for victory.

Leicester did at least rescue a losing bonus point as Matt Toomua kicked a penalty with the last play of the game to bring them within seven points of their hosts.

Gloucester director of rugby Johan Ackermann told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"Credit to the players, it was a great performance out there and we played some great rugby, there could have been one or two more tries but we'll take it.

"It's obviously difficult to play the rugby we want to in those conditions but it's the same for both sides and our set play was good and that was important.

"Henry Trinder moved to the wing and did really well for us, he's a special player and has X-factor."

Leicester head coach Matt O'Connor told BBC Radio Leicester:

"Ultimately the performance is disappointing, we started really well and the turning point was the sin-binning that cost us 10 points.

"It was a cynical offence and we then had to do a lot of defending and that took the game away from us a little bit.

"The result in isolation is not the end of the world, Gloucester is a tough place to come and win and the work we've done in the last few week will put us in good stead."
