Six Nations 2018: Dan Biggar back for Wales against France

Dan Biggar will make his 25th Six Nations appearance against France in Cardiff on Saturday

Dan Biggar is back at fly-half as one of seven Wales changes to face France as the 2018 Six Nations ends in Cardiff on Saturday.

The Ospreys number 10 replaces Gareth Anscombe, who drops to the bench.

Open-side Josh Navidi, prop Rob Evans and hooker Ken Owens also return, as does lock and captain Alun Wyn Jones.

Leigh Halfpenny comes in amid a back-three reshuffle as Liam Williams moves to the wing, while Owen Watkin makes way for Scott Williams in the centres.

Justin Tipuric and Taulupe Faletau keep their back-row places, holding off the challenges of Aaron Shingler and Ross Moriarty.

Biggar is starting his second game in the 2018 championship - Rhys Patchell and Anscombe have also both played 10 for Wales this tournament.

Head coach Warren Gatland said the fly-half options involving Biggar, Anscombe and Patchell had provoked "a very lively debate".

He said Biggar's experience was factor in his recall, adding: "Defensively he is very strong and good in the air."

Halfpenny's return to the starting line-up and Williams' switch mean Steff Evans is relegated to the replacements.

After he was sin-binned in the win over Italy last weekend, Gatland admonished Williams' "emotional" approach, saying he was immediately replaced by Halfpenny over fears a second yellow card would have led to a red.

Gatland said: "I have spoken to Liam. The message was keep your head down and don't throw your toys out of the cot because he has the potential to do that.

"He has been good. He is an emotional player and I like that about him.

"I admire his physicality and his intent about that. It's about him keeping things in check and he knows and understands that.

"It's not about giving him a clip around the ear and stuff. It is just reminding him what makes him a good player.

"You want that emotion in his game and it's just being able to handle that every now and then."

Tomas Francis keeps the tight-head role as Samson Lee is recalled on the bench after illness.

Captain Jones' return in the second row sees fellow Osprey Bradley Davies relegated to a supporting role.

Gatland also said Shingler had was "unlucky" to miss out on a starting place against France.

The Wales boss added: "From Aaron's point of view, Josh is starting again and I thought Justin Tipuric was outstanding last week.

"Josh has been great for us over the last six months and felt he deserved another opportunity.

"He is good over the ball and brings a physical element and we are going to need that against France."
