Wasps winger Christian Wade maintained his try-scoring run against Worcester at the Ricoh Arena to keep his side on course for the Premiership play-offs.

The bonus-point win keeps Warriors in peril, nine points clear of bottom club London Irish who host Exeter on Sunday.

After scoring in the corner, Wade crossed for his second just three minutes after Joe Launchbury went over.

Josh Bassett added a fourth to wrap up Wasps' victory before late consolation tries for Dean Hammond and Josh Adams.

Fly-half Dorian Jones kicked a penalty on his Worcester debut, while his replacement Jamie Shillcock landed one of his two conversion attempts as Warriors glossed up the final scoreline with two tries in the final three minutes.

But Wasps had all but got the job done by half-time as Wade and Willie Le Roux twice teamed up down the right to cut open the visitors.

It was another personal triumph for the pacy Wade, who, largely down to his record-equalling six in the game at Sixways almost two years ago to the day, took his try-scoring run to 10 in his last three matches against Worcester.

And, although Wasps had a fourth try chalked off and Jimmy Gopperth sinbinned for pushing airborne Worcester lock Andrew Kitchener, that only delayed the their bonus-point score when Bassett intercepted Shillcock's pass from near halfway and raced over for England wing Elliot Daly to convert.

Following Newcastle's Friday night victory against Sale, Wasps are back up to third on a day when they played a quarter of the game a man down, thanks to yellow cards for Jack Willis and Jimmy Gopperth.

Wasps director of rugby Dai Young:

"Up until the last five minutes or so, our defence was pretty good. We had two bouts of defending with 14 men which is not easy but we were pretty controlled for most of the game.

"There are a lot of good things but a lot which are frustrating and certainly the last two tries to Worcester in the last three minutes was disappointing.

"We know we have to win two games. We have to back up this performance in two weeks' time. We have to win against Northampton and then I expect us to go to Newcastle with still all to play for.

"It would be nice for me if we don't but these are two cup finals. The players know that, if we can get into the play-offs - and maybe a home draw is a bit beyond us - we are capable of going anywhere and getting a result."

Worcester director of rugby Alan Solomons:

"That game turned in the 10 minutes before half-time when they got two tries and a penalty.

"You turn over a ball against a quality team like Wasps and you are going to pay the price for it.

"The positive thing is we stuck to our task throughout and got two tries at the end.

"Wasps have x-factor players who are very good on the ball. You will be punished for mistakes."
