Llanelli maintained their place in the Principality Premiership after defeating Championship winners Pontypool 27-16 in the play-off match in Aberavon.

Llanelli flanker Taylor Davies and replacements Ryan Conbeer and Lee Rees scored tries, while Wales wing Tom Prydie kicked 12 points.

Pontypool centre Kieran Meek kicked 11 points, alongside a Scott Matthews try.

The Gwent side's seven-year exile from the Premiership will continue.

Pontypool will now aim to win a fourth successive Championship title next season having only lost one game in the last three league campaigns.

Llanelli won despite only naming 22 players in their squad because of injuries with try scoring flanker Davies normally a Scarlets hooker.

They were also reduced to 14 men in the first-half following yellow cards to Chris Long and Kalum Evans but the class told in the second-half with Scarlets players Prydie and Taylor Davies excelling.

The Premiership is reverting from 16 clubs to 12 next season, with Neath, Bargoed and Cross Keys already relegated.
