Brothers Tom and Ben Youngs both scored tries as Leicester Tigers got their European Challenge Cup campaign off to a fine start with a bonus-point win against Brive at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

Captain Tom scored the only try of a first half shaded by Tigers with three Joaquin Diaz Bonilla penalties to two by French stand-off Enzo Herve.

Brother Ben then came off the bench to score a key second try.

Two more from Cyle Brink and Nemani Nadolo prised a late bonus point.

Brive, who battered Tigers 28-9 in the Heineken Cup final at Cardiff Arms Park in the two clubs' glory days 23 years ago, were well in the contest until the mid point of the second half.

Their only try, early in the second half, by former Leicester academy player Wesley Douglas, had them within five points of the hosts.

But the introduction of Ben Youngs and fellow England half-back George Ford made a huge difference as Tigers, who were beaten by Toulon in last season's semi-finals, in the end ran out easy winners.

Tigers captain Tom Youngs told BBC Radio Leicester:

"It's very pleasing to win. Six months ago we'd probably have not got there. It would have got all scrappy.

"But getting all the England boys back gave us good energy. And really it's all about showing patience.

"We wore them down, stuck to the plan and got the result.

"We've got a lot of new players and we need more cohesion but we're getting there."
