Twenty-one year-old scrum-half Jack van Poortvliet starts ahead of Leicester team-mate Ben Youngs in the England team to face New Zealand on Saturday.

Elsewhere Exeter's Sam Simmonds starts at blindside flanker with Maro Itoje returning to the second row.

Manu Tuilagi is named at outside centre with captain Owen Farrell winning his 100th England cap inside him.

Billy Vunipola starts at eight with Jack Willis providing back-row cover on the bench.

England are facing New Zealand for the first time since they prevailed in the Rugby World Cup semi-final in the Japanese city of Yokohama three years ago.

"This fixture doesn't come around too often and these are the games that players remember in their careers," said head coach Eddie Jones.

"New Zealand have had the upper hand over the years, but it's been more balanced in recent times and the players have a chance to play their part in history.

"We've had a great week preparing for the game and the team is ready to go at them."

Van Poortvliet, who will be making only his third international start, has had an impressive autumn campaign so far.

He scored a try within seconds of coming off the bench in the defeat by Argentina before helping Jones' side to a 52-13 win over Japan in a more fluent performance the following weekend.

Simmonds, a specialist number eight who has not started a game at flanker in five years, has been shifted to blindside as Jones seeks to win the breakdown battle.

"Against New Zealand the back-row contest is massive," Jones told BBC Sport.

"Ardie Savea is probably the best player in the world at the moment and Dalton Papali'i goes hard at the breakdown so you know it is going to be highly contestable and you need speed in that area."

Nowell, who was ruled out of the win over Japan with an abdominal injury, is fit to make his return.

New Zealand have brought second row Brodie Retallick straight back into their starting line-up after his suspension for a red card in their 38-31 win over Japan.

The 31-year-old, like Farrell, will reach 100 caps with his appearance at Twickenham.

Coach Ian Foster has rejigged his backline in the wake of the 31-23 win over Scotland, bringing Richie Mo'unga into fly-half and moving Beauden Barrett to full-back.

Barrett's brother Jordie, who played 15 at Murrayfield, moves into midfield alongside Rieko Ioane, while Aaron Smith comes in at scrum-half.

"We're in a good space. I like where our game's going," said Foster, whose team have won their last six matches after some indifferent form earlier in the year.

"England want to play a strong pressure game and to squeeze your game and your mindset a little bit.

"The challenge for us against this particular opposition is how good are we at actually making sure we don't go into our shell."
