Cardiff Rugby have re-signed Wales centre Willis Halaholo on a short-term deal after his return to fitness.

The Achilles problem occurred in March and budget constraints meant he was due to leave Cardiff at the end of the 2022-23 season.

But Halaholo played for Cardiff in pre-season and will start Saturday's United Rugby Championship (URC) match against Benetton.

Halaholo "remains an important figure", head coach Matt Sherratt said.

"There is no doubt around his quality and we will see how he does in the weeks ahead."

Halaholo injured his Achilles tendon in training in October 2022 as he completed his recovery from an earlier hamstring pull.

Budget cuts across Welsh rugby's four regional teams meant Halaholo was among a raft of players scheduled to leave Arms Park last summer.

Fellow centre Rey Lee-lo was among them, but he has also since re-signed with Cardiff for the URC campaign.

In September 2023, Cardiff said they were to be taken over by new investors with a promise of "significant investment". after a turbulent period.
