England hooker Jamie George has signed a new two-year deal at Saracens.

The 33-year-old has won six Premiership titles and three European cups since making his debut in 2009 for the club he joined aged 14.

George's contract extension comes on the day he was named England captain for the Six Nations.

"In my mind I always wanted to stay, I've grown up here, have been here for a long time and am excited by what is next," he told the club website., external

"This whole organisation is based around people, and I'm excited by the people that we have here for the future. It's an exciting time to be here, I can't stress enough that my motivation is as high as ever.

"I've had some amazing times here and have enjoyed every part of it. My best mates are here and we all can't wait to see what the future brings."

George's contract extension also comes at a time when long-time Saracens and England team-mate Owen Farrell is being linked with a move to French Top 14 side Racing 92.

Fly-half Farrell announced in November that he would not be available for the Six Nations to "prioritise his and his family's mental wellbeing".

George is the second most capped hooker in English history with 85 caps and has appeared in three World Cups since his international debut in 2015.

He has also been offered an enhanced Elite Player Squad contract from the Rugby Football Union.

"Jamie lives and breathes Saracens and is a true leader in every sense of the word," Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall said.

"He is an incredibly popular member of the group and he continues to show how important he is to this club with his performances week in, week out.

"Jamie sets the standards for us and we couldn't be happier that he is staying."
