Number eight Gregory Alldritt has been named France captain for the Six Nations in the absence of Antoine Dupont.
Dupont, 27, will miss the upcoming tournament in order to join France's Sevens programme in February as he targets the Paris Olympics.
Alldritt, 26, who captains La Rochelle, has been a key player under coach Fabien Galthie since his debut in 2019.
He has got the role in preference to former captain Charles Ollivon.
The Toulon flanker was France skipper before an injury in 2022 meant Dupont took over.
Alldritt only returned to action on 30 December, after taking time off following France's home World Cup quarter-final defeat by South Africa.
Dupont's replacement on the pitch will be either Bordeaux Begles' Maxime Lucu or the uncapped Nolann Le Garrec, who has impressed this season for Racing 92.
Galthie has named five other uncapped players in centre Nicolas Depoortere, fly-half Antoine Gibert, flanker Esteban Abadie, plus locks Matthias Halagahu and Emmanuel Meafou.
Of the 34 selected by Galthie for the Six Nations, 22 were in France's World Cup squad.
France, who finished second in last season's Six Nations after defeat by Ireland, open their campaign against Andy Farrell's side in Marseille on 2 February.
