England Rugby: Red Roses score 6 tries in convincing win against France

England must meet New Zealand's standards when they face the world champions at Twickenham next weekend, head coach John Mitchell has said.

Last November, the Red Roses beat New Zealand to win the inaugural WXV1 and gain some revenge for their defeat in the World Cup final in 2022.

England, the world number one side, began their preparations to defend their WXV1 title with a comfortable 38-19 win over France on Saturday, but Mitchell said they would have to improve against the Black Ferns.

"It's always good to take a win, but it's also good that we have got some problems as well," said Mitchell.

"We made a couple of mistakes, so we have just got to tidy that up. We probably could get a little bit quicker to the breakdown as well.

"The other things, the girls fixed as they went along."

England scored six tries as they stretched their winning run over Les Bleus to 14 games, and Mitchell said he wants to continue building trust in his players when they host New Zealand next Saturday.

"We are going to have to meet the standards and that is what we are all about," he added.

'It doesn't get much better than that'

England captain Marlie Packer has been a committed servant to her country, and the experienced flanker kickstarted the win over France with the opening try.

"I think we came out the blocks firing," said Packer.

"France and had a good 10 minutes within that, but we just needed to make sure we stuck to our processes that we worked on over pre-season.

"It's a lot of chaos but it is coming together and I'm super proud of all the girls."

Victory over their Six Nations rivals launched England into a year that will culminate with a home World Cup next summer, and Packer said their next test needs no build-up.

"This is world number one against world champions," said the 34-year-old.

"It doesn't really get much better than that. If people haven't got their tickets, they need to get them now because it's going to be a physical encounter.

"Both packs will come alive and be electric. It's one not to miss."
