Glasgow Warriors fought back to beat Munster and move to within eight points of United Rugby Championship leaders Leinster.

The visitors temporarily lost Fineen Whycherley to the sin-bin early on following an illegal lift on Glasgow's Alex Samuel.

However, despite their personnel disadvantage Munster scored the first try.

Glasgow coughed up possession near the whitewash, the ball went left via Tony Butler's kick and John Hodnett took Andrew Smith's offload to cross, with Butler converting.

Munster stretched their lead on the other side as Sean O'Brien held off a clutch of tackles to touch down. Butler's conversion attempt was wide.

Sione Vailanu's turnover was instrumental to the Warriors' response as he linked up with Stafford McDowall and Ollie Smith to send George Horne over for his 54th try for the club, which equalled DTH van der Merwe's club record tally. Adam Hastings converted.

A Butler penalty followed for the visitors before Smith and McDowall worked the ball wide for Kyle Steyn to run in a second Warriors try. Hastings' conversion brought Glasgow back to within a point.

A second Butler penalty registered the first points of the second period and O'Brien's strength then came to the fore again as the wing powered over for his second try. Rory Scannell converted to give Munster some breathing space..

Again the reigning champions had to respond and respond they did. Replacement Matt Fagerson peeled off a ruck to crash over the line and Hastings added the extras.

Munster came under pressure again and were unable to resist as another substitute, Nathan McBeth, squeezed over for a bonus-point try, giving Glasgow the lead for the first time. Hastings maintained his record with the boot.

And the three-point advantage held until full-time, with Munster taking a losing bonus point and slipping to sixth.

Leinster are away to Pretoria Bulls on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
