England made light of being reduced to 14 men early on to hand Wales a seven-try humbling in Monday's fifth-place semi-final at the World Rugby Under-20 Championship in Italy.

Harri Wilde gave Wales an early lead at Viadana's Stadio Luigi Zaffanella with two penalties, before England prop Ollie Streeter was sin-binned - his yellow later being upgraded to red after review.

But when Nick Thomas brought down a rolling maul illegally, Wales were also temporarily reduced to 14 with England awarded a penalty try.

Wales responded through Sion Davies, the scrum-half collecting Steffan Emanuel's clever grubber kick to score a converted try.

But England finished the first half strongly, with tries from Campbell Ridl and Archie McParland - although Ben Coen missed both conversions - giving them a 17-13 lead at the break.

Josh Bellamy's try extended England's lead after the restart, before Jack Bracken, McParland with his second and Nick Lilley all crossed for the rampant side in white.

Coen also found his range with the boot, finishing with four conversions and two penalties to leave Wales far out of reach - who also had Ryan Jones sin-binned late on.

England's young guns had won their previous four matches against Wales in the World Rugby U20 Championship, although Richard Whiffin's side had stunned England in the final round of this year's Six Nations - winning 23-13 at Cardiff Arms Park.

Wales - who lost to Argentina and France prior to beating Spain in the pool stage - now face a seven-eighth place play-off on Saturday against Italy in Rovigo (14:30 BST), while England remain in the hunt to finish the tournament in fifth when they take on Australia at 17:00 BST.
