    Can Scotland mount a challenge?

And now we can hear from Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu on BBC Radio Scotland...

"It was an amazing moment," he said of picking up the trophy in front of his grandmother. "When she handed over the cup she said 'you got 'em!'

"I'm super happy and it makes the day all worthwhile, when we win like that. We won playing our rugby, we scored some brilliant tries. We know how dangerous our back three is but it was a group effort today and that's what I'm most pleased about."

On his hit with Joseph Suaalii: "It was some collision. I felt my body disappear! What a talent he is, he's only going to go from height to height. I wish him all the best, hopefully he's okay to play next week.

"We knew we needed a win today, nothing less. We put that pressure on ourselves and we delivered."

  3. 'We're better than some aspects' - Townsendpublished at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2024

    FT: Scotland 27-13 Australia

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend tells BBC Scotland: "If you catch me in 10 minutes I'll be in a better mood! There was more in us. We weren't as accurate in the first half.

"It shows we can get a win when we're not playing as well. There were moments in the game that I loved. We saw what it meant to our supporters to get a win against a quality team.

"We're better than some of the aspects today, but I'm proud that the players found a way to win.

"I'm inwardly happy, but if there was a game next week it would be a tough review and there would be a lot of things to improve."

Scotland showed the class they have in this team and made Australia look decidedly average.

Each and everyone of Scotland's tries in the second half were quality - moments of individual brilliance with elements of teamwork throughout.

You need these moments in international rugby to break down these robust defences.

  5. 'The score flatters Australia'published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2024

Overall, it's a good performance. We dominated the game after the first 10 minutes. The score flatters Australia, we could have put more points on the board but for lack of accuracy.

It feels like we dominated possession and territory. We looked dangerous and Australia didn't - they looked toothless.

That was down to Scotland's defence. Their shape was good, execution was good, the breakdown was excellent. A lot of positive performances - Jamie Ritchie being the main one.

  6. 'Scotland end year on a high'published at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2024

    FT: Scotland 27-13 Australia

Scotland full-back Blair Kinghorn tells TNT Sport: "We wanted to end the year on a high. To do so is amazing.

"It was a physical game, which made it a bit clunky at times, but we scored some really nice tries in the second half.

"I'm just buzzing for the boys - we've worked so hard all campaign.

"It's the most special thing in the world, playing here in front of our home fans."

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend wanted a statement win - and he got one.

We expected a tight contest and a physical first half yielded just one try, but the home side ran away with it after the interval.

The final say goes to Scotland and it's fitting that such an impressive defensive display ends with Australia denied a second score.

Another chance for Scotland to stretch their lead, but the line-out throw from Dylan Richardson is utterly bizarre, bouncing low past a cluster of bewildered players.

No harm done at this late stage.

    Scotland 27-6 Australia

    Peter Wright

Australia look tired, look out on their feet.

The speed of the ball they're getting at ruck time is the crucial thing. It's quick ball with an attack ready to go.

    Game over now!

It's super slick as Huw Jones and Blair Kinghorn feed Finn Russell to break through from close range.

  19. 'A quite ridiculous finish'published at 15:17 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2024

    Scotland 22-6 Australia

Former Glasgow Warriors back on Sportsound

    A quite ridiculous finish.

It's quality from Darcy Graham, quality from Huw Jones to begin with.

Josh Bayliss does the old in-and-out, slows down, accelerates, fends and crawls over the try line.

  20. try

Try Scotland 22-6 Australiapublished at 67 mins

    Josh Bayliss

He's just on and now he's celebrating his fifth try in 10 Tests.

Darcy Graham powers through a couple of tackles and pops the ball up to flanker Josh Bayliss, who gets his long legs going to get away from three Aussies as he plunges over in the corner.

Finn Russell can't land the extras from a long way out.
